Many of us visit Tenerife year after year because whatever time of year you visit you will enjoy excellent weather. Some of us have decided to make Tenerife our home to either work or retire to the island because of the climate and more relaxed way of life. The cost of living can be substantially less than the U.K. especially for those of us that indulge in the things that do us most harm such as cheap alcohol and cigarettes. If you shop in tourist areas though you can find that things can be quite expensive but after a while living on the island you will learn to do your shopping outside these areas. Many of the shops you find at home can be found on Tenerife such as IKEA, Spar, Makro, Lidle and Iceland. You will find that the prices in IKEA and Iceland are different to prices in the UK due to the cost of shipping the goods to Tenerife, in fact if you buy any English goods you will find them quite expensive. If you are going to be living in Tenerife you would be far better changing to Spanish brands and eating in Spanish restaurants. That is not to say you shouldn’t treat yourself to your favourite English restaurant now and again and they would of course appreciate the business and support of local ex pats and visitors. There are many different types and nationalities of restaurants in Tenerife.
